Real estate in Costa Rica is characterized by exquisite
sun-drenched beaches, awe-inspiring tropical forests, and towering
majestic mountains. Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, this
"rich coast" is home to some of the world's best sport fishing, white
water rafting, golf, and surfing, while boasting an extensive national
parks system, fine museums, and efficient infrastructure.
Its modern amenities coupled with a relaxed way of life and affordable cost of living have attracted thousands of expatriates, who are embraced by the Costa Rican government. In fact, more North Americans own real estate and live in Costa Rica per capita than any other country outside of the United States.
In addition, the country's 150-year-old democracy accounts for political and social stability, which is reinforced by the government's steadfast commitment to pacifism. The government is also dedicated to preserving Costa Rica's status as an ecological haven, designating more than 27 percent of the country as a protected area.
Although its land makes up only .03 percent of the earth's surface, Costa Rica fosters an incredible 5 percent of the world's plant and animal species. This abundant flora and fauna thrives in the country's tropical climate, in which temperatures average a comfortable 70ºF (20ºC) in the Central Valley and 78ºF (26ºC) on both coasts. There are two seasons in Costa Rica--the high season from December to May, and the green season from May to November.
